Safety is a key concern on all job sites and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) identifies the main four hazards are electrical hazards, fall hazards, ‘struck-by’ hazards and ‘caught-between’ hazards.
These hazards can be reduced with the help of secondary guarding devices which come standard on our boom lifts.
One example that is present on our JLG-line of machines is their Sky-Guard technology.
How it works
“Developed through extensive research and testing, the SkyGuard sensor stops all functions in use at the time when activated by approximately 50 lb (23 kg) of force. It then temporarily reverses some of the functions recently performed by the machine. By stopping the platform and moving the operator away from the obstruction automatically, SkyGuard helps prevent caught-between injuries while working at height.”
The reverse functionality is the only feature of its kind in the market. After stopping the machine, it temporarily reverses, or “undoes,” most functions that were in use at the time of activation for less than a second’s worth of time. The control system automatically accesses the functions in use by the operator at the time of SkyGuard activation and – for a small period of time – is able to reverse that sequence, with the exception of certain functions.
